Summary of Team 

The Global Marketing and Communications (GMC) department includes the communications, editorial, design, digital, social media, and content project management teams. Our customers are our colleagues based throughout North America and Europe. Though all Catalyst staff are working remotely during the pandemic, about half the members on our highly productive team are based in Catalyst’s NYC office with the other half working remotely from homebased offices on a permanent basis. We proudly transform Catalyst’s cutting-edge research into reports, workshops, and other knowledge products that our Supporters and the public engage with on their journey to create more inclusive workplace cultures. 


Summary of Responsibilities 

The Director of Global Communications works with the SVP and VP, Global Communications to develop and execute public relations to enhance Catalyst’s visibility, positioning and reputation; and support its mission, goals and initiatives.


Essential Functions

  • Work with the VP, Global Communications to develop and execute specific public relations strategies and goals
  • Work with Catalyst teams in communicating and promoting content and initiatives; assist with responses to government and public policy issues and actions
  • Continue to foster strong media relations, including pitching and relationship-building with key media; track, analyze and report media coverage
  • Help develop Catalyst’s response and messaging, talking points, op-eds, press releases, social posts on economic, policy, and other current events/trends affecting women in the workplace
  • Collaborate with social media team to support campaigns on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram
  • Work with executive leadership to manage their internal and external presence
  • Provide issues management support and counsel
  • Provide support for training, coaching, and guiding staff in public speaking, media interviews and presentations
  • Help manage PR agency teams and other external partners, who contribute to and support key PR campaigns and initiatives 

 

Knowledge and Skills

  • 5 – 8 years of public and media relations and/or journalism experience preferred; PR agency experience and issue advocacy experience a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Deep understanding of the changing traditional and social media landscape and the ongoing news cycle
  • Deep external communications/media relations experience and relationships among business, consumer/lifestyle and nonprofit media
  • Experience with executive communications
  • Experience writing for social media – short, succinct and pithy
  • Experience supporting media spokespersons with briefing and preparation for media interviews
  • Comfortable working with all levels the organization and proven ability to influence and persuade
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and a willingness to take charge and drive results
  • Ability to think creatively and problem solve
  • Ability to work with and manage PR agencies, including motivating teams and managing budgets
  • Ability to work effectively and project manage multiple projects with different leaders
  • Ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines and establish clear priorities quickly
  • Crisis communications knowledge and issues management experience
  • Able to work with confidential information without exception
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required
