Summary of Responsibilities

Catalyst is hiring for a seasoned event professional to lead the events operations and fundraising team. The VP of Events is responsible for the strategy and execution of Catalyst’s virtual and in-person events. This position owns the P&L for all signature Catalyst events such as Catalyst Awards and Catalyst Honours and will lead new convenings to support Catalyst’s mission and drive growth and engagement. They will have a proven track record in growing annual events and launching new events that enhance revenue streams. They will also demonstrate a passion for our mission and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Experience in event execution (both virtual and in-person), P&L growth strategy and/or marketing/communications is essential.


Essential Functions

  • Lead the strategy and execution of all Catalyst convenings including Catalyst Awards Conference and Dinner, Catalyst Honours Conference and Dinner, virtual and in-person conferences, roundtables and webinars
  • Lead the team members responsible for operations/project management, fundraising, operations/technology
  • Own P&L for Catalyst’s events portfolio and develop plan to grow revenue over time through sponsorship, ticket sales or other monetization strategies
  • Overall responsibility for budgets including preparation, negotiations, accurate and timely monthly forecasts for both expenses and alert management about risks and deviations to plan, and make recommendations for corrective action
  • Partner with community function to ensure convenings are structured with a community-first mind-set
  • Develop standardized systems and processes to increase departmental efficiencies and assess the impact of all convenings
  • Effective project management including ownership and adherence of timelines and templates
  • Accurately track and evaluate results on overall project goals
  • Liaise with Global Marketing, Development and Corporate Engagement departments
  • Build relationships with vendors, venues, and agencies
  • Stay up-to-date with best in class in-person, hybrid and digital technology event engagement trends

Education, Knowledge, and Skills

  • Experience: 10 years+ of progressive business experience in events.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required
  • Leadership and people management experience: A strong leader of teams. You’ve led successful initiatives, engaging, managing and developing teams and key stakeholders across business functions and all the way up the organizational ladder
  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion exposure/passion - An understanding of, and commitment to, trends in women’s advancement and diversity and inclusion with a demonstrated ability to learn new subject matter quickly and high intellectual curiosity
  • P&L experience/Ownership with proven results. Prior experience leading a business line and delivering or exceeding revenue goals
  • Exceptional problem-solving capability: You have a proven track record of solving complex problems, thinking creatively and using data to tell a story
  • Excellent project manager who thrives in fast-paced environments: You operate with a sense of “urgency” and can excel in an execution-focused environment, breaking down tasks into clear project plans
  • Drive / Self-sufficiency: You have a demonstrated ability to own a problem and aggressively drive from problem statement to solution in a self-sufficient capacity, even in a matrixed environment
  • Communication skills: You’re an excellent and structured verbal and written communicator with effective presentation skills
  • Executive presence: You have the ability to effectively engage, lead and influence senior executives - this role offers high visibility and access to senior leadership
  • Influence: Must demonstrate a high level of collaboration
